The southbound lanes of Highway 400 have reopened following a lengthy closure due to a collision that left one person critically injured.

Ontario Provincial Police said the Thursday afternoon crash involved a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.

“The tractor-trailer (was) moving obviously slower than the car. The car came in from behind and collided into the rear of that vehicle,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Schmidt said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The circumstances leading to the crash are unknown, though road conditions at the time were hazardous due to heavy snow.
