A busy area in Mississauga was shut down for much of the morning after a fire hydrant was sheared off, causing major flooding.
Crews responded to the area of Dundas and Hurontario streets Tuesday morning to find “significant water flow,” Peel police said.
Images from the scene showed water streaming down the roadway.
Officials Initially described the incident as a water main break, but a spokesperson for Peel Region later said they believe somebody drove into a fire hydrant, causing the flooding.

“A hydrant was sheared off, causing a leak and flooding on the roads, which is why the intersection was closed,” Peel Region Spokesperson Kieran Scott told CP24.
“The water operations team is in the process of shutting down the watermain to isolate the hydrant, so area residents will be out of water for a brief time. As long as the damage is not extensive, they anticipate having it completed later this afternoon.”
The area had partly reopened by around noon, but some closures remain in place.
Drivers are being advised toa void the area while repairs are underway.
