Man in 30s dies after stabbing near Liberty Village, homicide unit investigating

Toronto police provide an update on the deadly stabbing near Liberty Village, releasing the identity of the victim and details about the suspect.

A man who was critically injured in a stabbing near Liberty Village Friday night has died in hospital, and Toronto police say they are now searching for a suspect.

Emergency crews were called to the area at around 7:47 p.m. for reports of a stabbing. Officers located a man suffering from stab wounds, who was transported by paramedics to hospital.

“EMS arrived and transported the male to St Michael’s Hospital. The male was pronounced at St. Michael’s Hospital,” Acting Det. Sgt. Munish Dhoum said at a press conference Saturday afternoon.

Police have identified the victim as Marcel Cardiff. Dhoum added “the male is in his 30s.”

The Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

Police say they are actively reviewing video from the area.

Investigators have also released a suspect description. “We have a suspect description, and it is a male, approximately five-foot-11 inches in height, wearing black clothing and I am again, appealing for anyone who may have been in the area, driving through the area,” Dhoum said.
