A man in his 30s was rushed into emergency surgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre after being shot in Oshawa, Durham Regional Police say.
Police say they received a call to their 911 communications centre just after 6 a.m. in the area of Simcoe Street North and Bond Street East for reports that a male had been shot in the abdomen, Duty Insp. Jeff Caplan said at a news conference Sunday afternoon.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but in an update on Monday, police say he is now in stable condition.
Investigators say they are still working to determine exactly where the shooting occurred and how it unfolded.

“We did not receive any calls for the sound of gunshots, and we do not know exactly where the location of the shooting was,” said Caplan.
Police also say that the man was found by a nearby citizen who made the initial call to 911.
At this time there is still no suspect information.
In addition, police say they do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.
“Based on the information that I have, I do not believe that there’s any threat to public safety at this point,” Caplan said, noting the shooting may not have happened outdoors, pointing to the lack of reports from residents or people passing by in the busy area.
“There are lots of apartments above the stores. This is a very active area, even in the middle of the night, I’m confident that that if it happened outside, we would have received some calls for service.”
Simcoe Street North was closed in the area for several hours as officers canvassed for evidence and spoke with potential witnesses, but has since reopened.
Police are now asking for the public’s help as the investigation continues.
“We’re asking the public if you were in the area and you saw anything or if you have dash cam video (to come forward)... we’re (also) asking many of the businesses,” Caplan said.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Durham Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
