A popular restaurant that hosted mall-goers at one of Toronto’s busiest shopping centres will be closing its doors for good on Saturday.
Moxies announced this week that it will permanently close its Yorkdale Shopping Centre location on Jan. 17 after 18 years in business.
It is unclear what the future holds for the space that the restaurant currently occupies at Yorkdale.
“While it’s always difficult to close a restaurant, we remain proud of our team’s role in creating memorable experiences for those who have visited our long-standing Yorkdale location”, Joanne Forrester, President and Chief Operating Officer of Moxies, said in a written statement.
“This closure is not an end but a step toward our continued evolution, allowing us to focus on future growth opportunities. We are deeply grateful for the loyalty and support of our guests.”
Operations will continue at the 19 other locations across Ontario, the company said.
News of the closure comes after Mandarin announced earlier this month that it would be closing its midtown location after 35 years in business.
The dining institution said the closure was due to “area redevelopment” and the last day of service will be on Jan. 18.
“Like all our locations, Mandarin Yonge has been part of numerous customer celebrations and special moments,” an announcement on its website read. “It will live on in the memories of many.”
