Video shows suspect lighting tow trucks on fire at Brampton auto repair shop

CP24’s Courtney Heels is on the scene after an alleged arson damaged a tow truck and several other vehicles at a Brampton auto repair shop.

Peel police say they are searching for two suspects who doused tow trucks in gasoline before setting the vehicles on fire outside an auto repair shop in Brampton early Tuesday morning.

The arson occurred at a property on Rutherford Road, near Orenda Road, at around 3 a.m.

Security video obtained by CP24 shows a suspect holding what appears to be a red gas can while walking around vehicles in the lot. Moments later, two tow trucks ignite and flames spread to adjacent vehicles.

Police said they believe two suspects are responsible for the incident but no descriptions have been released.

Peel police Const. Amanda Steenson said police are looking to speak to anyone with information about the arson.

Steenson said police believe the two tow trucks were the target of the arson given that the suspects only poured gas on those vehicles.

She noted that investigators do not believe there is no threat to public safety.

The fire comes about a week after several tow trucks were set on fire in the area of Rutherford and Glidden roads on Jan. 5.

Steenson said police investigators do not currently have any evidence to connect the two incidents.

She added that given the timing and location of the two incidents, police will be looking into any possible connections between the two incidents.
