Ontario Provincial Police say a driver is facing charges after almost hitting a police cruiser in Caledon on New Year’s Day.

Police said an officer was on patrol near Highway 50 and Ellwood Drive when he was forced to “take evasive action” to avoid a vehicle that left a private lot and nearly struck the cruiser.

The officer then pulled over the driver, who subsequently failed a roadside screening test, police said.

The 33-year-old Caledon resident was charged with operation while impaired as well as careless driving.
