No injuries after wheels fly off tractor-trailer on QEW: OPP

Police say no injuries were reported after dual trailer wheels detached from a truck on the Fort Erie-bound QEW in Hamilton on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. near Centennial Parkway.

Ontario Provincial Police said no vehicles were struck by the flying wheels and the trailer was taken out of service.

A 62-year-old Pelham, Ont. man has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

“The results of this incident could have been catastrophic,” the OPP said in a post on social media.

“(Commercial Motor-vehicle) operators have a responsibility to ensure their equipment is inspected and safe prior to use.”
