A Mississauga man who was subject to a lifetime driving ban is facing charges after he allegedly fled from a RIDE stop after being asked to provide a breath sample, police say.
The incident happened at around 1 a.m. on Nov. 28 in the Britannia Road and Millcreek Drive area.
Police say that an officer spoke with the driver and detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.
When the officer asked the man to provide a sample of his breath using a roadside breathalyser driver, he allegedly fled the area at a high rate of speed, police say.
The driver was later apprehended.
Police say that an ensuing investigation determined that the suspect was subject to a lifetime driving ban due to a number of prior convictions for driving offences, including failing to provide a breath sample and driving with a suspended licence.
Blair Titterson, 43, of Mississauga, is facing four charges in connection with the Nov. 28 incident, including flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Nearly 11,000 vehicles have been checked at seasonal RIDE checkpoints in Peel Region as of Dec. 15.
Police say that 85 people have been charged as a result of the annual campaign and 660 Highway Traffic Act charges have been laid.
