Suspect stabbed individual that tried to intervene in North York assault, police say

Nicholas Benjamin, 30, of Toronto, is wanted for assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

Toronto police have issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man they say stabbed an individual who attempted to intervene in the assault of another person on Thursday night.

Police say the incident took place inside a residence in the Torresdale Avenue and Robert Hicks Drive area of North York at around 9 p.m.

According to investigators, there was a verbal altercation and the suspect physically assaulted an individual that was known to him.

At that point, another individual intervened and was stabbed by the suspect, police say.

The suspect fled the area prior to the arrival of officers.

Police say a female victim and a male victim both sustained non-life threatening injuries.

“Police believe this was an isolated event and there is no concern for public safety,” a news release issued on Friday notes.

Nicholas Benjamin, 30, of Toronto, is wanted for assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.

He is described as approximately five-foot-eight in height with a medium build and black hair.

Anyone who may spot the suspect is being asked not to approach him and to instead contact police immediately.
