If you plan on travelling on the TTC, GO Transit, or UP Express for your New Year’s plans, here’s what you need know about modified schedules and free fares.
GO Transit
Metrolinx says that rides on any GO trains or buses will be free from 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until 8 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
Extra late-night train service will be added on every line “to help customers get home safely.”
Metrolinx said in a statement that “riders are encouraged to continue tapping on and off with their PRESTO card, but they will not be charged.”
These are the final train departure times leaving Union Station:
- Lakeshore West - 7:47 a.m.
- Lakeshore East - 7:20 a.m.
- Kitchener Line - 6:34 a.m.
- Stouffville Line - 4:00 a.m.
- Barrie Line - 3:54 a.m.
- Richmond Hill Line - 1:15 a.m.
- Milton Line - 2:55 a.m.
GO buses will run on their regular schedule on New Year’s Eve.
On New Year’s Day, GO Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule.
UP Express
The Union-Pearson Express will also have complementary service, running until 3:45 a.m. on Jan. 1.
UP Express trains will depart Union Station every 30 minutes, beginning at 1:15 a.m. and ending at 3:45 a.m.
TTC
The TTC will have free service starting at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and running until 8 a.m. on Jan. 1. There will be extra service on Lines 1 and 2 starting at 10 p.m.
The TTC says subway service will run “later than usual” but that the last trains on each line will mostly depart before 3 a.m., with night buses running until 8 a.m. the next day.
On Line 1, the final northbound trains from Union to Finch will depart at 2:31 a.m., and from Union towards Vaughan Metropolitan Centre at 2:27 a.m.
The final subway southbound from Finch will leave at 2 a.m., and from Vaughan at 1:50 a.m.
On Line 2, the last eastbound train from Kipling will leave at 2:15 a.m., while the last one from Bloor-Yonge to Kennedy will depart at 2:40 a.m. Westbound from Kennedy, the last train will leave at 2:18 a.m., while Bloor-Yonge’s toward Kipling is scheduled for 2:39 a.m.
Line 4 will see the last eastbound train leaving Sheppard-Yonge Station at 2:57 a.m., while Don Mills Station’s last westbound train will leave at 3:09 a.m.

On Line 6, the last eastbound ride will leave from Humber College Station at 9:49 p.m. and the last westbound will leave Finch West at the same time. Shuttle bus service will run from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with 336 Finch West running from 2:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
As for streetcar service, the 509 Harbourfront and 510 Spadina will both be extended until 3 a.m. Then, from 3 to 8 a.m., the 310 Spadina streetcars will operate.
As well, special express buses to Sherbourne and Bathurst stations will run from midnight to 2 a.m. to make it easier for riders to connect to Line 2.
