Fire at North York passport office being investigated as ‘suspected arson,’ man arrested: Toronto police

One person has been arrested after a fire was found on the third floor of a North York passport office.

A man is in custody following a two-alarm fire at a passport office in North York on Monday morning, Toronto police say.

It happened at a Service Canada Passport Centre located at 4900 Yonge St., near Sheppard Avenue, shortly after 11 a.m.

Toronto Fire told CP24 that a fire was found in a third-floor lobby and it was quickly extinguished after sprinklers were activated.

One person was transferred to paramedics for care with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

“This fire is being investigated as a suspected arson,” they wrote in a follow-up post on X.

A fire investigator has been called to the scene.
