Joanna Lavoie

Joanna Lavoie joined CP24.com as a digital journalist in May 2022, specializing in breaking news and social justice issues. A long-time Toronto journalist, she has covered some of the biggest news stories in southwestern Ontario and has also written extensively about the drug poisoning and housing/homelessness crises in the GTHA. Before coming to Bell Media Inc., Lavoie worked as a reporter for Torstar Corp.’s Toronto community news division (Metroland). Her articles also appeared in the Toronto Star and the Hamilton Spectator. A graduate of Toronto Metropolitan University, she holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a specialization in broadcasting. Lavoie has earned numerous accolades for her work, including most recently a 2025 Champion of Mental Health award (media category) from Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health. She also speaks occasionally about her work, relevant topics, and the industry with students, groups, and other media outlets. A married mother of two daughters, Lavoie is a passionate Latin dancer and a devoted bonne vivante. She speaks English and French.
