A woman who allegedly abandoned her newborn baby inside a midtown Toronto church over the holidays is now facing charges.

The accused, whose identity is being withheld to protect her child, has been charged with abandoning child and parent not providing the necessaries of life — endangering life.

Toronto police said they were called to the area of Yonge Street and Broadway Avenue on Dec. 21, at about 10:40 a.m., after receiving a call for a “found child.”

“A newborn baby was located and taken to hospital. The baby’s mother was also located,” Const. Stephanie Miceli told CP24 on .

Both received care, she previously said, adding police are not providing any further details about this case.

CP24 has also reached out to the church in question, St. Monica’s Catholic Church at 44 Broadway Ave., for comment, but the parish secretary requested that we contact Toronto Police Service, “which has taken over the case.”
