Durham police have issued a safety advisory following an increase in residential break-and enters across the region.
In an effort to raise awareness, police shared video footage of a recent incident on social media.
In the 43-second clip, two people wearing dark clothing can be seen hopping over the fence of what looks to be the backyard of a house. They are then seen walking around the main floor and basement of the residence before leaving.

“We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious people, vehicles, or activity to police immediately,” said Durham Regional Police Service, who urged people to note suspect descriptions as well as the make and model and licence plate of their vehicle, when possible.
“Timely reporting supports ongoing investigations and helps us identify patterns and persons of interest.”
Police are also reminding homeowners to invest in basic home‑security measures, like securing all doors and windows, using exterior lighting, and securing valuables out of sight.
Further, they are urging those with home security cameras to consider registering their system with CamSafe, DRPS’ voluntary camera registry, which “allows officers to quickly identify nearby cameras that may assist in solving neighbourhood crimes.”
Anyone with further information about a recent break-and-enter in Durham is advised to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
